A J&D Farms Southern Wedding | Gadsden, Alabama

Owen and Dylan flew from their homes in Alabama to Los Angeles early 2020 for a quick vacation and to shoot their Couple’s Video with Danielle’s husband Jamie, who would also be filming their wedding (All Because He Asked). We decided it was the perfect time to get to know them in a casual setting, plus we thought maybe we could try to match their Southern hospitality. We invited them to our weekly family dinner, and they bravely accepted despite warnings that it often gets loud with four crazy kids and excited parents. The dinner was a success; we had a blast getting to know them and hearing the stories of how they met in school, and of course the proposal in Barcelona, Spain. Check out the Couple’s Video below to hear all about it!

Like most couples in 2020 Owen and Dylan had to jump a few hoops to get to their wedding day, but everything came together like it was meant to be. In their case, they had to do a quick change from a Jamaica destination wedding to a Southern wedding at J&D Farms in their hometown of Gadsden, Alabama. J&D Farms is so gorgeous, it was even featured in the magazine, Southern Living. We quickly realized why. The couple and their family repeatedly tried to prepare us for the heat and humidity of Alabama summers; and while they were right, it was well worth it! It was such an amazing experience shooting to the chorus of frogs in a naturally scenic and serene location.

Both Owen and Dylan have the most kind-hearted, loving families, they treated us like longtime friends and were always so hospitable. We had a great time with Owen’s mom catching fireflies for the first time ever. It was also amusing being on the other side of the twin game trying to tell Owen’s twin sisters apart all day. Dylan is the only boy and the third of four kids. His sisters must have been a good influence on him because he is the sweetest most caring man, attributes that made Owen fall for him. Dylan’s dad beamed with pride during his toast.  He told the story of teenage Dylan who saved up money, warm clothes and winter supplies for a couple of homeless people living under a local bridge. His parents were so touched they ended up putting the pair up in a hotel during the coldest winter period. This story was so heartwarming, we don’t believe there was a dry eye in the room.

Owen was the perfect example of a low-key, chill bride. She was going to enjoy her day and nothing could stress her out. We love to see this kind of attitude with our brides. The day goes fast and the small stuff won’t be remembered, so enjoy! Owen stayed positive and laughed off an incident when a cut finger marked her dress with a little blood. Fortunately, it was no match for a makeup wipe. Wedding tip: Pack a little emergency kit with items such as safety pins, makeup wipes, Band-Aids etc. Many coordinators carry this as well, but never hurts to confirm.

Owen’s first look with her father was particularly touching. A former minor league baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, her dad towers her at 6’7”! It was so sweet seeing him enfold her with his hug. There is just something about the father/daughter relationship that gets us every time!

Owen and Dylan said their emotional vows in a beautiful, air-conditioned, white wood stable room. After the cake cutting and few toasts the party moved to the barn. Here the party kicked off with the couple’s video viewing, which got the whole room laughing at the re-enactments of Owen and Dylan’s meeting and proposal!  Later the live band kicked up and the dancing began.

When they couldn’t party anymore, the night ended with the always popular sparkler exit!

We had a great time getting to know and spending time with Owen, Dylan and their family. We wish they lived in Southern California so we could welcome them into our home anytime–such wonderful people! We wish Owen and Dylan all the best and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!
